Safe Skies Submits Comments on Draft Noise Exposure Map for Dane County Regional Airport
On December 9, 2022, Safe Skies Clean Water Wisconsin submitted a letter to Airport Director Kimberly Jones and County Executive Joe Parisi, commenting on the draft November 2022 Noise Exposure Map Update, Pursuant to Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 150, Dane County Regional Airport, prepared by HMMH of Burlington, Massachusetts.

Comments were submitted on behalf of the residents of Madison, Wisconsin that comprise Safe Skies Clean Water Wisconsin, who have voiced concerns over the basing of F-35A fighter jets to Madison’s Truax Field since 2018. We challenged the decision particularly in response to the Environmental Impact Statement’s findings that “there will be disproportionate impacts to low income and minority populations, as well as children” and noted the continuing support for construction of low-income housing near the airport, among other things. We also noted the disappointing lack of real public outreach and the inadequacy of the study area and noise standard, and urged the DCRA to take public involvement seriously.
The below letter includes detailed comments and recommendations for improving the noise study, exposure map, and development of noise abatement options.
